Artist Profile: Jens Lindemann

Trumpet great Jens Lindemann brings together the finest brass players in North America for an All Star Brass showcase of virtuosity on Sunday, December 2 as part of our Resonate Series.

Featuring a brass quartet with Jens Lindemann trumpet, Larry Knopp trumpet, JD Shaw horn, James Miller trombone, Patrick Sheridan tuba as well as Kristian Alexandrov on percussion. Resonate favourite, Ian Parker is a special guest soloist on piano, performing a new arrangement of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue for piano and brass.

GRAMMY-nominated Jens Lindemann is a busy performer and professor of trumpet at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. He was named to the Order of Canada in 2015 for his skill as a world-renowned trumpet soloist. His first big break was with the Canadian Brass, the internationally known ensemble that he joined in 1996. He picked up a JUNO award for Jazz Album of the Year: Group in 2017 for Sweet Canadiana with The Order of Canada soloists.

The inspiration behind All Star Brass came from Jens hearing a string quartet recordings of Stern, Perlman, Zukerman, and Ma. He decided to form a collective of the greatest brass soloists in the world, who all had independent careers but wanted to get together for the synergy of playing live chamber music. The project kicked off with a live recording in 2009 at the Banff Centre and the group has gone on release three more live albums including Toccata & Fugue and continue to perform occasional concerts when schedules can be aligned.

We’re thrilled to be presenting All Star Brass, marking Jens’ return to our stage after his wildly popular Brassfire concert last season.
