Hilary Letwin: A Portrait of a Portraitist: Jane Billaux

Billaux was born into an affluent family in London, England in 1903. She strained under the strictures of privileged life, a burden alleviated by her discovery of painting. She came to West Vancouver in 1934 with her husband and young child, partly to escape the expectations set by her parents of her life in England. Almost immediately, Billaux began exhibiting widely and prolifically. In 2007, her work was exhibited at the West Vancouver Art Museum, after which 19 works were donated to WVAM.
