An exploration of work from one of the first women to graduate from the Vancouver School of Art.
Join Dr. Hilary Letwin for this exploration into the life and work of Irene Hoffar Reid, a resident of West Vancouver and was deeply embedded in the artistic and creative community. She was among the first women to graduate from the Vancouver School of Art in 1929. She worked in a studio at her home designed by B.C. Binning, who had been among her teachers at the Vancouver School of Art.
Hoffar Reid worked in oils until they damaged her health; she then switched to watercolours and pastels. In the 1960s, she served as President of the B.C. Society of Painters, the Canadian Group of Painters, and received an honorary doctorate from Emily Carr University of Art and Design in 1989.
