The Kay Meek Youth Conservatory has made such a positive impact on my life. I’ve met some of my best friends here and have had the chance to work on some truly amazing shows with wonderful people. Every year this program is the highlight of my summer!

2022:

Junior: Shrek Jr.

Senior: 13 The Musical

When our daughter signed up for the Kay Meek Summer Conservatory 5 years ago, age 7, we didn’t realise then all the great benefits she would experience. Of course the singing and acting is top class. But in addition to that her life was enriched by the friendship of older and younger students across the district. She learned to encourage others when they were nervous, to accept constructive criticism for herself, value the differences in others, and see their strengths as well as her own. The program is packed with activities such as yoga and mindfulness, choreography, improvisation games, and other techniques to help the students understand and play their role in the musical. It always amazes me just how fast they are off script and know all their songs: Everything sinks in faster when you’re having fun. Thank you to everyone who makes it happen. We’ll be back again and again.

2021:

Junior: Dear Edwina Jr.

Senior: High School Musical

The Kay Meek Youth Conservatory program helped me to become a well-rounded performer. Not only did I learn many technical skills through the various workshops and masterclasses, but I learned the value of the ensemble when putting together a show. Plus, I made some super awesome friends, which was a definite plus.

Specifically, during Addam’s Family, I saw exponential growth in myself as a performer during the four weeks.

The Conservatory gave me so much experience on stage. It was a great way for me to play big roles in musical theatre. The faculty are so kind and supportive of everyone succeeding. I went on to study musical theatre in university and pursue a career in acting because of my experiences at the Conservatory.

The Kay Meek conservatory was such an incredible experience. Having the chance to be part of a community of people who share a love for theatre is magical, and I loved being able the chance to work with friends to produce a show that I was proud of.

We’ve sent both of our children to the Youth Conservatory for the past few summers and they’ve enjoyed themselves thoroughly and benefited from the excellent instruction. Great way to experience musical theatre from start to finish in only a few weeks.

The Kay Meek Program has provided my three children a valuable experience in teamwork and pursuit of excellence as it pertains to the arts. The program educates the child in voice, dance, drama, team work, and that hard work pays off. I have never seen my children so proud of something they have created as a team. The relationships with peers and staff created over the summers will last a lifetime. I am so grateful for this program.
