Top Talent Opens Each of Our Series

Over the course of three weeks starting at the end of September our five series—Resonate, Amplify, Play, Dance and Cabaret—all open with a dizzy array of top local and international talent.

If your tastes run to the classical, Resonate is the series for you! Enrico Onofri, an exceptional Italian violinist is the guest soloist performing Vivaldi’s L’Estro Armonico with the Pacific Baroque Orchestra. Vivaldi’s L’Estro Armonico is a set of 12 concertos for stringed instruments that was first published in Amsterdam in 1711—his Four Seasons concertos were not published until 1725—demonstrating he was a composer with a brilliant future.

For trumpet legend Herb Alpert performing is just one part of his artist output. He cofounded A&M Records and grew it to become the world’s biggest independent label, with a roster that included the likes of The Carpenters, Cat Stevens, Joe Cocker and Sergio Mendes & Brasil ’66. Also, known for fronting Tijuana Brass, Herb has been performing for the last decade with his wife Lani Hall, the lead singer of Brasil ’66. And did we mention Herb co-wrote “Wonderful World”!

This concert marks the first in five shows in our Amplify Series, presenting top caliber international artists.

The Georgia Straight described The Piano Teacher as “a beautiful meditation on loss and the healing power of music” and the play took home the Jessie Richardson Award for Outstanding Original Script in 2017. Our first of three Arts Club on Tours shows, this production opens our Play Series. The series also includes two productions by the esteemed Western Canadian Theatre Company.

Premiered in the spring, Ballet Kelowna innovative adaptation of A Streetcar Named Desire opens our Dance series, evoking the post-WW2 era in America and tells the story of two very contrary sisters, Stella and Blanche Dubois. Hailed as “an impressive achievement” (The Globe and Mail), this remount is especially dear to Simone Orlando, Artistic Director of Ballet Kelowna, who performed the principal role of Blanche during the 2006 world premiere in Vancouver. A stunning work with choreography by John Alleyne and set to the original jazz score by BC-based composer Tobin Stokes.

His trio with special guest Cameron Wilson kicks off our Cabaret Series with five concerts in a club setting.
