McEwen Theatre
The McEwen Theatre is our black box studio theatre that seats a maximum of 145 people (dependent on room configuration). It is commonly used with traditional tiered seating or our signature cabaret seating.
It is best used for meetings, classroom learning, music lessons, auditions, rehearsals, dance lessons, masterclasses, speakers, and other small group activities.

Located on the Main Level of the Kay Meek Arts Centre
Seating Capacity:
- Tiered Seating: 145
- Cabaret Seating: 100
- No seating: 200
Rental Includes
- A 30-minute break must be provided every 5 hours.
- If a staff member works more than 5 hours without a break then an additional 30-minutes of pay is added to the end of the day for each period of 5 hours without a break.
- 30-minute breaks are paid.
- • 1-hour breaks are unpaid.
- If all technical staff are on a break then no work can continue in the theatre. Rotating breaks are acceptable to allow the rental client to continue work in the theatre.
Accessibility
- 14 accessible seats located in the front row of the theatre (seats can be removed for wheelchair seating)
- Stage and backstage areas are step-free from rear parking lot
- Accessible parking on Mathers Avenue
- Elevator access to all levels
- Accessible washrooms on all levels
