Junior Conservatory

Junior Conservatory 2025 Presenting

Seussical Jr.

Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that’s been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird.  Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him.  Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

Students will be introduced to our Creative and Production teams, and hear  about the concept for our production from the Director, Choreographer, and Designers (Costumes, Sets, & Lighting). We will then begin the process of learning the Music and Choreography for Seussical Junior. Over the first two days, the creative team will work with the students as individuals, small groups, and as an ensemble, to pair each student with a unique character track. For the remainder of the three weeks we will develop and grow in our theatre skills while creating our production of Seussical Jr., all culminating in professionally mounted performances on Kay Meek’s Grosvenor Stage!

Haley Allen, Choreographer

Haley is thrilled to be joining the “Seussical JR” Team at the Conservatory this year! With a passion for dancing and singing at a young age, she moved from her small-town of Smithers, BC, to get a degree in Musical Theatre and a Bachelor’s of Performing Arts at Capilano University in North Vancouver. When she is not performing in theatre shows, film and tv, or touring, Haley is a dance and theatre instructor at multiple studios and school locations around Vancouver, and a choreographer for productions such as this! In 2018, she started working at the Kay Meek Conservatory as a Camp Counsellor, and is thrilled to be coming back in a creative role again this summer! She has had the pleasure of choreographing many musicals, including Beauty and the Beast, Chicago, Mamma Mia, Much Ado About Noting (a 1950’s Shakespeare adaptation), and now this!

Some of her favourite performing credits include: We Will Rock You and Newsies (Theatre Under the Stars), Crazy for You (RCMT), A Chorus Line and Guys and Dolls (Fighting Chance), and catch her as Mungojerrie in “Cats” all summer long at Theatre Under the Stars!! These students are truly something special: they have continued to surprise, amaze, and excite Haley with their creativity, work ethic, enthusiasm, and joy, and she can’t wait for you to see them shine!
