Lifting fresh sounds out of time-honored forms, Canadian musician Joe Grass blends together blues, gospel, jazz, bluegrass and folk
Hailing from Moncton and now based in Montreal, Joe Grass began playing the guitar at eight years old and has been performing since he was 14. Steeped in blues, gospel, jazz, bluegrass and folk, his music is a blend of evocative song-writing, contemporary finger-style and lap-slide guitar.
As well as writing his own music, he is also one of Montreal’s most sought-after musical partners. He has collaborated with artists such as Elisapie (co-producing The Ballad of the Runaway Girl, awarded a Polaris prize and a JUNO), the Barr Brothers, Lhasa de Sela and Patrick Watson.
On his most recent album, Falcon’s Heart, Joe lifts fresh sounds out of time-honored forms. Heartfelt lyrics are lit up by leftfield arrangements and shimmering sound. Get ready to sink into a performance that is at once completely simple and utterly lush.
"It’s a vivid, opalescent journey where simple melodies transform into lush sonic environments colored by various instrumental accompaniments." – 5 Finger Review
